Creationism: Can it safely exist within education?

Introduction

It has been a debate for many years whether there should be a separation of church and state. Religious fanatics of course say that the masses should be aware of a “higher power”. On the other side of the fence, there is the anti-religion faction who say that religion should never be conveyed anywhere near education or politics. However, there is an assemblage of people who believe in a higher power but just believe that it should be the parent’s task to teach for or against a certain religion. There are intriguing arguments for all sides; in the end, it comes down to keeping religion separate from state and only present hard cold facts that can be proven; not hunches from stories created 2,000 years ago.

Reasoning

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship,". This is what Thomas Jefferson had to say about religion over 200 years ago. It has been long believed that it should be up to an individual or his congregation to decide on his/her beliefs.

"Many people came to America to search for religious freedom. Their hope was to escape the religious persecution they were facing in their countries. The one thing they did not want to do was to establish a church like the Church of England. The colonists wanted a chance to worship freely and have an opportunity to choose which religion they wanted to take part in."

  • Allowing creationism to be taught in schools is forcing religious beliefs on many unwilling and reluctant students.
  • Doing this is very similar to the Church on England that was revolted against 300 years ago.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." -First Ammendment

Teacher With Bible Divides Ohio Town

Mr. Freshwater, an eighth-grade public school science teacher, is accused of burning a cross onto the arms of at least two students and teaching creationism, charges he says have been fabricated because he refused an order by his principal to remove a Bible from his desk.

Its become a fact that evolution is becoming widely accepted globally; which is why it should be presented in science classes instead of creationism

The evidence behind evolution is extremely solid and almost completely debunks the theory of creationism.

It's very appearent that the current horse shares many of the same traits as its Eohippus ancestor from 60 million years ago. However, due to environment changes it's species began to adapt to change over the millions of years

Conclusion:
It's blatantly clear that there is no way any species would be at it's current state without adaptation and changes over time- aka "evolution". Every species shows evidence of a long distant ancestor that shares the same traits in someway; Humans, horses, sea mammals. Every living creature. So why would you teach creationism? There's almost NO evidence at all that supports the theory besides "faith". Religion is not wrong; however it is wrong to force it on many who only desire facts and evidence. They do not want to go off of stories created thousands of years ago. Religion also causes much controversy more than it helps anyone. Wars have been started over religion; many have been enslaved and killed because of religion. In this society we must be informed, intelligent, and knowledgeable. Keep creationism out of schools.
